CHAPTER 8 - SPAM QUIZ

Eddie Haskell has started a new online mail order business selling penis enlargers. Eddie invested $50 in harvesting soft ware to “harvest” e-mail addresses from newsgroups and Web sites. He then sent a mass e-mailing to two million addresses advertising his “Eddie Haskell Penis Enlarger.” He assured recipients of his e-mail that this was not “ spam” because the message was in compliance with Bill S.1618 Title III, as the mailing contained the sender’s valid e-mail address and a provision to opt out of future mailings. Wally Cleaver was one of the recipients of Eddie Haskell’s e-mail and, angered at all the recent spam he had been receiving, Wally retaliated by sending a mail bomb to Eddie. Wally’s younger brother Beaver also received Eddie’s e-mail and had a marketing epiphany: he set up a Web site called “Beaver Sex Enhancement Products” where visitors could sign up for his weekly e-mail newsletter showcasing the latest sex toys.

List the issues involved and probable outcomes.
